Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said Chhattisgarh is ahead in the ‘Catch the Rain’ water‑conservation drive and introduced a new 5 percent farm model to boost agricultural productivity.
Chhattisgarh has positioned itself at the forefront of the centrally promoted ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign, which aims to harvest and store rainwater for agricultural use. State officials highlighted that the programme has already seen increased water‑table levels in several districts, prompting the government to accelerate its rollout.
In a separate move, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai unveiled a 5 percent farm model, a scheme that encourages farmers to allocate a modest portion of their cultivated area to water‑saving and high‑yield practices. The model is designed to demonstrate the benefits of precision irrigation, soil health improvement and diversified cropping within a limited land base.
Speaking at the launch, the CM emphasized that the model will serve as a replicable template for small and marginal farmers across the state, helping them achieve better yields without expanding cultivated area. He assured that technical support and subsidies would accompany the initiative to ensure swift adoption.
State agriculture department officials said pilot projects under the 5 percent model will commence in the upcoming sowing season, with monitoring mechanisms to assess impact on productivity and water usage. The combined focus on rainwater harvesting and efficient farming is expected to strengthen food security in Chhattisgarh.
