Centre Extends Leave Travel Concession for Employees to J&K and Northeast by Two Years

The Union government has announced a two‑year extension of the Leave Travel Concession, allowing central employees to visit Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeastern states.
The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions issued a fresh notification extending the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme for an additional two years. The extension applies to all eligible central government employees who wish to travel to Jammu & Kashmir and the eight Northeastern states.
Under the revised guidelines, staff can claim travel reimbursement for official or personal trips to the specified regions for the fiscal years 2026‑27 and 2027‑28. The eligibility criteria, fare caps and documentation requirements remain unchanged from the earlier version of the scheme.
The government said the move is intended to promote tourism, strengthen national integration and ease the financial burden on employees posted far from their hometowns. By keeping the LTC facility alive, the administration hopes to encourage more staff to explore these remote yet strategically important parts of the country.
Officials added that the extension reflects the centre’s commitment to equitable access and development of the border and hill regions, aligning with broader policy goals of inclusive growth.
