Authorities have shut Central Park in Connaught Place until October 17 after a standoff over the BJP’s planned Tiranga March.
Delhi officials announced that Central Park, located in the heart of Connaught Place, will remain inaccessible to the public until October 17. The decision follows a heated confrontation between municipal authorities and organizers of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Tiranga March, which was slated to pass through the area.
The BJP had applied for permission to hold a patriotic march displaying the national flag, but the application met resistance from the civic administration citing security concerns and potential crowd congestion. Negotiations broke down, leading the Delhi Police to order a temporary closure of the park as a precautionary measure.
The shutdown affects daily commuters, shoppers, and street vendors who rely on the park’s open space for respite and commerce. Police have deployed additional personnel to monitor the perimeter and ensure that the restriction does not spill over into adjoining streets.
Officials assured residents that the park will be reopened on October 18, provided the march proceeds without further incidents. They also urged citizens to cooperate with law‑enforcement directives to maintain public order.
