New Delhi – The central government has unveiled a railway safety initiative that will see the replacement of ageing passenger coaches across the country with 1,000 modern LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches. The move is aimed at strengthening passenger safety and improving ride comfort.
Under the plan, the old coaches will be systematically withdrawn and substituted with the new LHB units, which are equipped with advanced safety features such as anti‑collision technology and improved crashworthiness. The LHB design also offers better stability at higher speeds.
The rollout will be coordinated by Indian Railways and is expected to be implemented in phases across all zones, ensuring that the upgraded coaches reach major routes and regional services alike. Officials said the initiative reflects the government's commitment to modernising the rail network and safeguarding commuters.
