CBIC Simplifies Paperwork for Concessional Duty on UK Imports

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs has announced a simplification of the documentation required to avail concessional customs duty on goods imported from the United Kingdom.
The CBIC stated that the revised procedure aims to reduce the compliance burden for importers seeking preferential duty rates on UK-origin goods. By streamlining the paperwork, the board hopes to make the concession claim process faster and more transparent.
Officials noted that the change applies to all items covered under the existing India-UK trade arrangement that offers concessional customs duties. The simplified documentation will replace the earlier, more complex set of forms and declarations.
Trade analysts have welcomed the move, saying it could encourage greater bilateral trade by lowering procedural hurdles. The CBIC added that it will continue to review and improve customs processes to support smoother cross-border commerce.
