The Central Bureau of Investigation in Bhopal has taken into custody Shraddha Pathak, principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 in Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.
The CBI team in Bhopal conducted a raid at Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 in Itarsi and arrested the school's principal, Shraddha Pathak, on charges of taking a cash bribe of three lakh rupees. The investigation, which began after a complaint was lodged, uncovered evidence suggesting the principal accepted the illegal payment in exchange for influencing school admissions and other administrative decisions.
According to officials, the seized amount was found in the principal's possession, and forensic analysis is underway to confirm its source. The CBI has also detained several individuals who are believed to have facilitated the transaction, though their identities have not been disclosed.
The arrest underscores the central government's ongoing crackdown on corruption within educational institutions. Authorities have reiterated that any misuse of authority in schools will be pursued rigorously, and they have urged staff and students to report any suspicious activity.
The case is being transferred to the court in Bhopal for further legal proceedings. If convicted, the principal could face imprisonment and a ban from holding any public office, in line with anti‑corruption statutes.
The incident has drawn attention from parents and educators across Madhya Pradesh, prompting calls for stricter oversight and transparent admission processes in Kendriya Vidyalayas nationwide.
