Cattle roaming the streets of Mohali are causing significant traffic delays, and recent government directives have yet to resolve the issue.

City officials in Mohali report that stray cattle have become a persistent obstacle on major thoroughfares, slowing vehicular movement during peak hours. The animals, often found grazing near market areas and residential colonies, force drivers to brake frequently and take detours, leading to longer commute times.

In response, municipal authorities issued a series of Go‑Se (government service) orders aimed at relocating the cattle to designated shelters and improving waste management to deter grazing. However, field reports indicate that the measures have not been fully implemented, and the number of cattle on the roads remains unchanged.

Local residents and transport unions have voiced frustration, urging the Punjab government to expedite the relocation process and enforce stricter penalties for owners who abandon livestock in public spaces. The situation continues to affect daily life and commercial activity in Mohali.

Authorities say they are coordinating with the animal husbandry department to identify long‑term solutions, but no concrete timeline has been announced.

The issue underscores broader challenges faced by rapidly urbanising cities in Punjab, where stray livestock intersect with growing traffic demands.
