The Central Administrative Tribunal has directed the Union government to appoint retired Haryana police officer Raj Kumar Walia to the Indian Police Service.
New Delhi – The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) issued a directive ordering the Union government to induct retired Haryana police officer Raj Kumar Walia into the Indian Police Service (IPS). The order, reported by Indianmasterminds, mandates that the government take the necessary steps to formalise his inclusion in the elite cadre.
The decision follows a petition filed with CAT, seeking recognition of Walia's service record and eligibility for IPS induction. While the tribunal’s order is binding, the government must now process the appointment in accordance with existing civil service rules.
If implemented, Walia would become one of the few retired state police officers to be elevated to the IPS, a move that could set a precedent for similar cases across the country.
