Canon has released new firmware for its Cinema EOS line, enhancing the C400, C80 and C50 cameras with expanded capabilities.
Canon announced a firmware update that adds new features to three of its Cinema EOS models – the EOS C400, EOS C80 and EOS C50. The upgrade, detailed by British Cinematographer, aims to broaden the cameras' functionality for professional filmmakers.
The updated firmware introduces enhanced color grading tools, refined frame rate options, and improved workflow integration with Canon's post‑production software. Users can also expect better low‑light performance and more flexible recording formats.
Canon says the updates are available for download from its official website and can be installed via standard USB procedures. The company has not disclosed any pricing changes, indicating the patches are provided free of charge to existing owners.
Industry analysts view the move as part of Canon's strategy to keep its cinema line competitive against rivals such as Sony and RED, especially as demand for high‑quality video content rises in both film and streaming sectors.
