CAG flags data gaps and fund shortfalls in green mission across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal

The CAG released a report on the green mission, a multi‑state environmental programme aimed at afforestation, water conservation and renewable energy projects in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Moreover, critical project data – such as area of trees planted, water bodies revived, and renewable installations commissioned – were either incomplete or missing from official records.\nThe CAG has urged the state governments and the central Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change to rectify the gaps, improve data management, and ensure that the remaining funds are deployed promptly to meet the mission’s targets before the 2025 deadline.\nWithout reliable data, assessing the environmental impact of the scheme becomes difficult, potentially undermining the intended climate‑resilience benefits for the region.
