Newly released findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) indicate that the entire ₹373 crore earmarked for road‑safety initiatives in Rajasthan has not been utilized during the current financial year. The audit highlights a stark contrast between the idle fund and a noticeable rise in road‑crash incidents and fatalities across the state.
The CAG report points out that despite the allocation being part of the state’s broader road‑infrastructure and safety programme, no disbursements have been recorded to date. Officials from the state transport department were asked to explain the delay, but the audit notes a lack of concrete action plans.
Road safety experts warn that the unspent resources could have funded critical measures such as speed‑monitoring devices, safety audits of high‑risk stretches, and public awareness campaigns. The audit recommends immediate deployment of the funds to curb the growing toll of road‑related deaths.
