Budgam Police intensifies crackdown on Drug peddling five Arrested in three cases.

Budgam, October 6, 2026:
In a sustained crackdown against drug peddling and illicit trafficking, Budgam Police has arrested five persons and recovered substantial quantities of contraband in three separate operations conducted across the district.
In the first operation, during naka checking at Hyderpora on the intervening night of September 28/29, 2026, a police party of Police Post Humhama intercepted a WagonR bearing registration number JK04J-6805.
Two persons travelling in the vehicle were apprehended and identified as Aejaz Ahmad Bhat @ Aej Gyale S/o Abdul Rehman Bhat and Tariq Ahmad Paul S/o Ghulam Rasool Paul, both residents of Narkara. During their search, 126 grams of heroin was recovered from the possession of Aejaz Ahmad Bhat, while 25 grams of heroin was recovered from Tariq Ahmad Paul, taking the total recovery to 151 grams of heroin. In this connection, FIR No. 284/2026 has been registered at Police Station Budgam under the relevant provisions of law, and investigation is underway.
In a separate operation conducted on October 2, 2026, during routine patrolling at West End Colony, Hyderpora, police personnel intercepted an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number JK01AX-6404. The occupants were identified as Faisal Ahmad Shah @ Afreed Kalia S/o Gulzar Ahmad Shah and Ubaid Feroz Zargar S/o Feroz Ahmad Zargar, both residents of Mohanpora, Narkara. During their search, approximately 4 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered.
Accordingly, FIR No. 285/2026 has been registered under the relevant provisions of law, and investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the recovered substance and trace its further supply chain.
In another operation conducted on October 3, 2026, joint police party of Police Post Humhama and CRPF, while carrying out routine checking near the Airport Drop Gate, apprehended an individual during screening. A thorough search of his baggage led to the recovery of 69 grams of cannabis and 212 grams of poppy straw. The accused was identified as Shalu E.S., a resident of Kerala.
The accused was taken into custody and the recovered contraband was seized in accordance with prescribed legal procedure. FIR No. 287/2026 has been registered at Police Station Budgam under the relevant provisions of law, and investigation is underway to trace the source and establish the supply chain of the recovered contraband.
Budgam Police reiterates its zero-tolerance approach towards drug peddling and illicit trafficking. Sustained and coordinated operations will continue across the district to identify, disrupt and dismantle networks involved in the illegal drug trade, while further investigation in the cases remains underway.
