Forest officials say the chances of cubs are improving as three young tigresses are regularly seen in close proximity to male tigers in Rajasthan's Mukundra Tiger Reserve.
Rajasthan's Mukundra Tiger Reserve is witnessing heightened breeding optimism after forest officials observed three young tigresses frequently interacting with resident male tigers. The close encounters, recorded over recent weeks, suggest that the females are entering a receptive phase, raising expectations of cubs in the coming months.
To safeguard the potential breeding activity, the forest department has intensified surveillance across an 82‑square‑kilometre enclosure that combines fenced zones and adjacent open forest. Rangers and camera traps are now deployed continuously to monitor movements and prevent any disturbances.
The reserve, known for its rugged terrain and diverse prey base, has struggled with low tiger numbers in the past. Successful breeding would not only bolster the local tiger population but also reinforce conservation efforts aimed at maintaining ecological balance in the region.
Officials emphasized that while the signs are promising, they remain cautious and will continue rigorous monitoring to ensure the safety of both the adult tigers and any future cubs.
