Bollywood's large‑scale live performances have markedly declined in South Africa, reports IOL.
South Africa’s entertainment scene has seen a noticeable drop in the number of large‑scale Bollywood live productions, according to a recent IOL analysis. The country, which once hosted frequent concerts and stage shows featuring Indian film stars, now reports far fewer such events.
These performances had traditionally drawn sizable crowds from the Indian diaspora as well as local audiences interested in Indian music and dance. Over the past few years, the frequency of these shows has diminished, signaling a shift in the market.
Industry observers note that the decline reflects broader changes in entertainment consumption and the logistical challenges of staging high‑budget productions abroad. While Bollywood continues to enjoy a fan base in South Africa, the era of regular big‑ticket live spectacles appears to be waning.
The IOL piece highlights the trend without attributing a single cause, underscoring that the fading of these shows is a recent development that industry stakeholders are monitoring closely.
