The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is fast‑tracking solar rooftop projects at its stations under the Karnataka Griha Jyothi scheme, aiming to lower fuel and electricity expenses and reduce overall metro operation costs.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) announced that it is accelerating the installation of solar rooftop systems at its metro stations across the city, under the Karnataka Griha Jyothi programme for commercial and residential customers.

The solar rooftops are intended to generate renewable electricity, thereby reducing the metro’s dependence on conventional power sources and cutting fuel and electricity consumption.

Officials said the initiative will lead to a substantial decline in metro operation costs, improving the financial sustainability of the network.

The scheme also extends solar solutions to nearby commercial and residential users, promoting wider adoption of clean energy in Bangalore.
