The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has introduced a compulsory night‑shift garbage collection to keep Brigade Road, Jayanagar and Gandhinagar clean during festival periods.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BMC) has announced a new night‑shift waste collection schedule that will be mandatory from today. The move is aimed at preventing the buildup of garbage in key commercial zones during upcoming festival days.

The night‑shift operation will cover the bustling Brigade Road area, the residential‑commercial mix of Jayanagar and the commercial stretch of Gandhinagar. These locations are known for high footfall and increased waste generation during celebrations.

BMC officials explained that festivals typically lead to a surge in litter, and the regular daytime collection often struggles to keep pace. By deploying municipal workers on a dedicated night shift, the corporation hopes to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in these high‑traffic zones.

The night‑shift roster will involve municipal labourers working after regular hours, ensuring that waste is collected and cleared before the next day’s activities begin. The initiative is part of BMC’s broader effort to improve urban sanitation and uphold the city’s image as a clean, livable metropolis.

Authorities expect the new schedule to reduce litter accumulation, improve public health standards, and enhance the overall aesthetic of Bengaluru’s commercial districts during the festive season.
