*Sheikh Bashir Extends Support for Official Recognition of Punjabi Language in J&K*
Srinagar: Senior BJP Leader and Former President, BJP Minority Morcha J&K, Sheikh Bashir, has extended his full support to the demand for official recognition of Punjabi language in Jammu & Kashmir, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Sikh community.
Sheikh Bashir urged the Government of India and the J&K Administration to give due consideration to the demand and take appropriate steps for granting Punjabi language an appropriate official status in Jammu & Kashmir, in line with the aspirations of the Punjabi-speaking community.
He appealed to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji; Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah Ji; and Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Shri Manoj Sinha Ji, to kindly intervene and consider the matter sympathetically.
Sheikh Bashir further stated that the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Act, 2020 specifically provides for efforts towards the promotion and development of Punjabi, along with Gojri and Pahari languages. He said that further strengthening the institutional and official support for Punjabi would contribute to the preservation of the language, literature, culture and heritage of the Sikh community in Jammu & Kashmir.
He reiterated that linguistic diversity is an important part of Jammu & Kashmir’s cultural heritage and called for constructive consideration of the demand through the appropriate constitutional and administrative process.
