He made the statement during a press interaction in Darbhanga, emphasizing that any decision on the pact should be guided by a long‑term perspective.
Jha argued that the existing agreement, signed in 1996, does not adequately address the evolving water‑resource challenges faced by both nations. He urged policymakers to think fifty years ahead, suggesting that a fresh assessment could better safeguard India's interests while promoting sustainable water management.
