On Diwali, BJP members across Punjab lit lamps to commemorate youths who died from drug addiction and pledged stronger action against the drug menace.
Punjab's Bharatiya Janata Party marked the Diwali festival by organising a lamp‑lighting ceremony to remember young lives lost to drug addiction. Party workers gathered at various local venues, lighting diyas as a symbolic gesture of hope and remembrance.
Senior BJP leaders addressed the gatherings, describing the drug menace as a grave threat to the state's future. They emphasized that the loss of youth to narcotics not only devastates families but also undermines social development.
The party announced that it will intensify its anti‑drug drive, including stricter enforcement of existing laws, expanded rehabilitation programs, and increased awareness campaigns in schools and colleges. Officials said coordination with law‑enforcement agencies and community groups will be heightened to curb supply chains.
The ceremony coincided with Diwali celebrations, underscoring the party's message that the festival of lights should also illuminate the path toward a drug‑free Punjab.
