The Bharatiya Janata Party has named Sunil Bansal its key campaign manager, overseeing both urban local body elections and the upcoming Lok Sabha race in Telangana.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced that Sunil Bansal will serve as its principal strategist for the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections and the Lok Sabha polls in Telangana. Bansal, who has been active in the party’s state unit, is expected to coordinate campaign messaging, candidate selection and grassroots outreach across the region. Party officials said his experience in election management and his familiarity with Telangana’s political landscape made him a suitable choice for the dual role.
The decision comes as the BJP seeks to expand its footprint in the southern state, where it has traditionally lagged behind regional parties. By assigning a single point person to both ULB and parliamentary contests, the party aims to ensure a cohesive strategy and avoid fragmented efforts. Analysts note that a unified approach could help the BJP consolidate its vote base and improve its performance in both local and national arenas.
Sunil Bansal’s appointment is also seen as a signal that the BJP intends to field a more aggressive campaign in the run‑up to the 2024 general elections. The party has already begun mobilising volunteers and setting up booth‑level committees in key districts. The upcoming ULB elections, scheduled for later this year, will serve as a litmus test for the party’s organisational strength ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
State BJP leaders expressed confidence that Bansal’s leadership will translate into tangible gains for the party. They emphasized that the focus will be on addressing local issues such as water scarcity, infrastructure development and employment generation, while aligning these concerns with the party’s national agenda.
The move underscores the BJP’s broader strategy of deploying seasoned campaigners to critical regions, aiming to convert organisational groundwork into electoral victories in Telangana’s forthcoming elections.
