A computer operator in Bhagalpur forged a teacher ID on the state education portal, siphoning nearly ₹1 crore from government funds.

A recent investigation by the Bihar Education Department uncovered a fraud that saw a computer operator create a fake teacher ID on the state’s online portal, allowing the siphoning of close to ₹1 crore from government funds.

The fraud was traced to a contractor named Avinash, who had access to the portal’s backend. Using his credentials, he generated a legitimate-looking teacher profile and routed salary disbursements to a private account.

The embezzled amount, equivalent to roughly 10 million rupees, represents a significant loss for the state’s education budget and has raised concerns about the security of digital payroll systems.

Department officials have launched a formal inquiry and are coordinating with law enforcement to recover the funds and prosecute the offender. The case underscores the need for tighter cybersecurity measures in public sector portals.
