The Bihar state government has suspended seven engineering officers for alleged lapses in handling recent floods, while the water level of the Gandak River has begun to recede.

Patna, Bihar – The state government announced the suspension of seven engineers for alleged lapses in the flood response that followed heavy monsoon rains. The officials, who were part of the department responsible for water‑resource management, were relieved of duties pending an internal inquiry.

Authorities said the engineers failed to act promptly on rising water levels, delayed the opening of sluice gates and did not coordinate effectively with local disaster teams. The alleged negligence is believed to have hampered relief efforts in several flood‑prone districts.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Gandak River, which had surged to critical heights earlier in the week, has started to fall, offering some relief to affected communities. Local officials are monitoring the river closely as it recedes.

The department has promised a thorough investigation and indicated that further disciplinary action could be taken based on the findings.
