The Bihar police announced a project to create digital maps of all police‑station boundaries, enabling real‑time tracking of crime clusters and accident‑prone zones.
Patna – The Bihar police have launched an initiative to digitise the geographic limits of every police station across the state. The project aims to produce precise, GIS‑based maps that will be linked to a central database for monitoring crime concentrations and accident‑prone locations.
Using satellite imagery and field surveys, the mapping team will chart each station’s jurisdiction and overlay data on reported offences, traffic incidents and other safety concerns. The integrated system is expected to allow commanders to visualise hotspots instantly and allocate patrols or resources more efficiently.
Police officials said the digital platform will complement existing law‑enforcement tools, improving response times and aiding preventive measures. The rollout will begin with pilot districts before expanding to cover the entire state within the next year.
The move reflects a broader push by Indian states to adopt technology‑driven policing, aligning with national objectives of data‑centric public safety management.
