The Member of Legislative Council elections in Bihar started today under heightened security, with about 150 candidates vying for eight seats.
Voting for the eight Legislative Council seats in Bihar commenced today, marking the start of the state’s biennial MLC elections. Polling stations across the state opened as election officials began the counting process for the first phase.
Authorities deployed tight security measures at all venues, with police and additional forces stationed to ensure a peaceful voting environment. The heightened vigilance aims to prevent any disturbances and to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
Approximately 150 candidates, representing a mix of political parties and independents, are contesting the eight seats. The large field reflects the competitive nature of Bihar’s upper house, where each seat can influence the balance of power in the Legislative Council.
These seats form part of Bihar’s bicameral legislature, and the results will shape the composition of the council for the next six years, affecting legislative deliberations and the state government's ability to pass bills.
Election officials have appealed to voters to follow the prescribed guidelines, maintain decorum at polling booths, and report any irregularities to the authorities.
