The Food Safety Department raided Pawan Biryani in Kachhari Dhal, Bihar, uncovering an unlicensed operation and multiple sanitation violations ahead of Diwali and Chhath.
The state Food Safety Department stepped up inspections in Bihar ahead of the Diwali and Chhath festivals, targeting eateries that may be compromising public health. On Sunday, officials conducted a surprise raid at Pawan Biryani, a popular biryani outlet located in Kachhari Dhal.
Inspectors found that the shop was operating without a valid food licence, a basic requirement under the Food Safety and Standards Act. The absence of a licence raised immediate concerns about the establishment’s compliance with mandated safety protocols.
Further examination revealed several hygiene shortcomings, including inadequate waste disposal, lack of clean water for food preparation, and signs of pest activity. The department has recorded these violations and indicated that punitive action, including possible closure, will follow as per regulatory guidelines.
The raid forms part of a broader state‑wide crackdown aimed at preventing food‑borne illnesses during the festive season, when consumption of street‑food and restaurant meals spikes.
