The Bihar Food Safety Department has seized packaged drinking water bearing mismatched brand labels and urged consumers to verify manufacturer details before purchase.

Patna, Bihar – State food‑safety officials have launched a series of inspections after reports surfaced that packaged drinking water was being sold with inconsistent brand labels. The raids targeted several retail outlets and small bottling units where water bottles displayed mismatched manufacturer names and missing Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence numbers.

During the operation, the department confiscated the improperly labelled packs and issued notices to the concerned businesses for violating packaging regulations. Officials emphasized that such discrepancies can mislead consumers about the source and safety of the water they consume.

The Food Safety Department also issued a public advisory, reminding citizens to check the manufacturer's name, FSSAI licence number, and other mandatory packaging details before buying any bottled water. The department said it will continue monitoring the market to ensure compliance and protect public health.

No injuries or health incidents have been reported so far, but authorities warned that unchecked mislabelling could pose risks if the water does not meet prescribed quality standards.

The crackdown forms part of a broader effort by the Bihar government to tighten oversight of food and beverage products amid rising concerns over consumer safety.
