Heavy rains and flooding in Bihar have damaged over 4,019 hectares of farmland, with rainfall 196.97% above normal by September 7. The state government has unveiled a relief scheme for affected farmers.
On 7 September, Bihar experienced unusually heavy rainfall, with precipitation levels reaching 196.97% above the monthly average. The deluge caused widespread flooding that affected more than 4,019 hectares of agricultural land across the state.
The inundation has left many farmers without usable land, jeopardizing their harvests and income for the season. In response, the Bihar government has announced a comprehensive relief package aimed at compensating losses, providing seed and fertilizer subsidies, and facilitating the rehabilitation of damaged fields.
Officials say the plan will also include measures to improve drainage infrastructure and early warning systems to mitigate future flood risks. The government is coordinating with local authorities to distribute aid and ensure that affected communities receive timely support.
