The Bihar Election Commission has revised the procedure for adding names absent from the electoral roll, eliminating the need for a separate declaration with Form‑6 after a Special Intensive Review.

The Bihar Election Commission announced a procedural change following the recent Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists. Under the new rule, individuals whose names are missing from the electoral roll can be added without submitting a separate declaration form, commonly known as Form‑6.

Previously, applicants had to attach a formal declaration to the Form‑6 application, a step that often delayed the inclusion of eligible voters. The revised process streamlines the addition, allowing officials to verify and update the roll directly after the SIR findings.

Election officials said the change aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and ensure that all eligible citizens are promptly enfranchised ahead of upcoming elections. The commission will continue to conduct periodic SIRs to maintain the accuracy of the voter database.

Stakeholders, including political parties and civil‑society groups, have welcomed the simplification, noting that it could improve voter turnout by minimizing administrative obstacles.
