Bihar Braces for Floods as Ganga, Gandak, Kosi and Son Rivers Surge

The Bihar State Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert after water levels rose sharply in several rivers that feed the region. The Ganga, flowing from Uttar Pradesh, is approaching critical levels, while the Gandak and Kosi rivers, which originate in Nepal, are also showing high discharge. Simultaneously, officials warn that the Son river, whose catchment lies in Madhya Pradesh, could breach its banks as monsoon rains intensify.
Local administrations in districts such as Gaya, Patna and Bhagalpur have begun pre‑emptive measures, including sandbagging vulnerable embankments and preparing evacuation plans for low‑lying villages. The Bihar government has appealed to the central Disaster Response Force for additional resources and urged residents to stay informed through official channels.
No major damage has been reported yet, but the convergence of water from three directions raises the risk of widespread flooding across the state in the coming days.
