Cyber fraudsters in Bhopal convinced a young man to transfer nearly ₹12 lakh by promising crypto returns and a ₹160 bonus, later demanding additional money.
In Bhopal, a group of cyber criminals targeted a young investor by offering a modest ₹160 bonus as a token of trust. After the initial incentive, they persuaded him to move funds repeatedly, claiming high returns from cryptocurrency investments. Over the course of 32 separate transfers, the victim sent a total of ₹11.98 lakh to accounts controlled by the fraudsters.
When the victim attempted to retrieve his money, the scammers escalated the demand, asking for an additional ₹60,000 under the pretext of processing fees. The victim, unaware of the deception, complied with the new request, further deepening his loss.
Authorities have been alerted to the scheme, which combines the lure of crypto profits with small upfront bonuses to build credibility. Police are investigating the network of fraudsters and have urged the public to exercise caution before making online investments, especially those promising unusually high returns with minimal initial outlay.
