Sanitation workers in Bhopal have been on an indefinite strike for two days, leaving streets, lanes and markets littered with waste and a strong odor.

Bhopal municipal authorities reported that sanitation staff have not resumed waste collection for two consecutive days, citing an indefinite strike over unresolved grievances. The stoppage has resulted in piles of garbage lining major thoroughfares, narrow lanes and bustling market areas, creating a visible health hazard and a pervasive foul smell.

Local traders, observing the mounting inconvenience, have taken to clearing debris themselves and urging commuters to avoid congested routes. Approximately four hundred vehicles were seen parked along the affected streets, further aggravating traffic flow and limiting emergency access.

City officials warned that prolonged disruption could lead to vector-borne diseases and urged the striking workers to negotiate a swift resolution. Meanwhile, residents have been advised to limit waste generation and use temporary disposal bins set up by the municipal corporation.

The municipal corporation has pledged to engage with the workers' representatives within the next 48 hours to address wage and working‑condition concerns, aiming to restore regular sanitation services and prevent further deterioration of public hygiene.
