Sanitation staff gathered at Shahjahan Park in Bhopal, seeking a Rs 25,000 salary, regularisation and the end of contract hiring, and issued a final notice to the state government.
Sanitation workers assembled at Shahjahan Park in Bhopal on Thursday, staging a protest that has been described as a province‑wide demonstration. The gathering was organised to press the Madhya Pradesh government on long‑standing grievances concerning employment conditions.
The core demands include granting a monthly salary of Rs 25,000 to each worker, converting contract positions into permanent posts and abolishing the existing contract‑based hiring system that the workers say leaves them insecure.
Representatives of the striking staff handed a written memorandum to officials, stating that if their demands are not met, they will suspend sanitation services across the state from the following day. The notice was framed as a final warning to the authorities.
As of now, the state government has not issued a formal response, and officials are reportedly reviewing the demands. The potential shutdown of sanitation work could affect public health and daily life throughout Madhya Pradesh if the threat is acted upon.
