On Tuesday, sanitation workers in Bhopal gave the state government a final warning, demanding a monthly salary of ₹25,000 and regularisation of their jobs.

On Tuesday, a large group of municipal sanitation workers gathered in central Bhopal, staging a sit‑in outside the state secretariat. The demonstrators, many of whom have been on contract for years, demanded that their monthly pay be raised to ₹25,000 and that their positions be regularised under permanent employment status.

The workers announced that this protest was their "final warning" to the Madhya Pradesh government, after months of informal talks that failed to produce a concrete offer. They warned that a prolonged strike could disrupt waste collection and public hygiene across the city.

State officials, represented by the Public Works Department, acknowledged the grievances and said a meeting with union leaders would be scheduled within the next 48 hours. No official figure on the financial impact of the demand has been released, but the administration indicated it would review budget allocations before making a decision.

The demand reflects a broader trend in several Indian states where contract sanitation staff are seeking parity with regular employees, citing low wages and lack of job security as key concerns.
