Bengaluru Social Groups Sponsor Cricket Team for Third‑Gender and Special‑Consciousness Players
Several Bengaluru‑based social organisations have pledged financial support to enable third‑gender and special‑consciousness cricketers to compete in national tournaments.
Bengaluru, Karnataka – In a move to promote inclusivity in sports, several social organisations in Bengaluru have pledged financial support for a cricket team comprising third‑gender and special‑consciousness players. The sponsorship aims to cover training costs and participation fees for national tournaments.
The initiative, announced by local NGOs and community groups, seeks to provide a platform for players who have historically faced barriers to entry in mainstream cricket. By covering expenses, the sponsors hope to facilitate regular practice sessions and travel to national competitions.
Officials from the sponsoring bodies emphasised the importance of representation and equal opportunity in sports. They also highlighted that the funding will help the team acquire necessary equipment and coaching.
The team will represent Bengaluru in upcoming national events, marking a significant step toward greater diversity in Indian cricket. The support reflects a growing trend of corporate and community backing for marginalized athletes across the country.
