The BCCI has organised selection trials for multiple Arunachal Pradesh cricket squads to prevent future match forfeitures, officials said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that it will hold selection trials for various state-level cricket teams from Arunachal Pradesh, aiming to ensure sufficient player pools and compliance with eligibility rules, thereby avoiding the match forfeitures that have plagued the state in recent tournaments.
The trials, scheduled over the next two weeks at venues across Arunachal Pradesh, will be overseen by BCCI officials and regional selectors. Players from across the state have been invited to register, and the selection process will evaluate skill, fitness and adherence to the board’s regulations.
Arunachal Pradesh’s cricket association has faced criticism after several of its teams were forced to withdraw from domestic competitions due to inadequate squad numbers. By conducting these trials, the board hopes to field full‑strength sides for upcoming Ranji Trophy and other domestic fixtures.
The BCCI also indicated that similar measures could be extended to other northeastern states if needed, underscoring its commitment to strengthening cricket infrastructure in the region.
