A Bangladeshi woman detained in a Jharkhand correctional facility was allegedly raped, leading the state police to suspend three constables while an inquiry is launched.
Police officials in Jharkhand confirmed that a woman of Bangladeshi origin, who was being held in a state detention centre, reported being sexually assaulted by fellow inmates and staff. The allegation was lodged with senior officers on Monday, prompting an immediate internal probe.
Following a preliminary review, the Jharkhand police department suspended three constables who were on duty at the facility, citing possible negligence and breach of duty. The suspended officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
State authorities have assured that a forensic team will examine the premises and collect evidence, while the victim has been transferred to a hospital for medical examination and counseling. The police spokesperson said the case will be treated with utmost seriousness and that any personnel found culpable will face strict disciplinary action under the law.
