Bangalore Launches QR Code Digital ID for Street Vendors to Access Government Schemes
Bangalore Municipal Service has rolled out a QR‑based digital identity card for street vendors, enabling them to avail various government financial benefits more easily.
Bangalore Municipal Service (BMSPU) has launched a special campaign to distribute QR‑code based digital identity cards to street vendors in the city, aiming to streamline their access to a range of government financial schemes.
The initiative provides vendors with a unique digital ID that can be scanned to verify eligibility and claim subsidies, loans, and other support programmes offered by the state and central governments.
By digitising the identity process, the city hopes to reduce paperwork, cut down on delays, and ensure that street traders receive the benefits they are entitled to in a timely manner.
The rollout will cover vendors across major markets and informal trading zones, with support staff on the ground to assist in registration and card issuance.
Officials say the program is part of a broader effort to formalise the informal sector and promote inclusive growth in Bangalore.
