On the new‑moon night, the Baba Mahakal idol was revealed from ash, crowned with silver and garlanded, drawing chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” from devotees at the Ujjain temple.
Ujjain’s principal Mahakaleshwar temple observed a special ritual on Amavasya, when the idol of Baba Mahakal was taken out of a bed of ash. The emergence of the deity’s physical form was the focal point of the evening’s proceedings.
The statue was then embellished with a silver crown and a traditional mundmala, giving it a distinct ceremonial appearance. The adornments were applied in front of the gathered crowd, highlighting the reverence accorded to the deity.
Devotees responded with enthusiastic chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” filling the temple complex with resonant prayers. The collective vocalisation created a palpable atmosphere of devotion throughout the premises.
After the ceremonial dressing, the idol was again immersed in ash as part of the concluding rite, marking the completion of the ritual sequence observed on the auspicious night.
