Baba Mahakal adorned with Vaishnav tilak and silver crown during Bhasma Aarti at Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar Temple

On the Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha Saptami, the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain held a Bhasma Aarti where the deity was embellished with Vaishnav tilak, Ram‑named bilva leaves, a silver crown and a mund mala after a Panchamrit abhishek.
The sacred Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain observed the seventh day of the Krishna fortnight of Bhadrapada with a traditional Bhasma Aarti dedicated to Baba Mahakal. Devotees gathered early in the morning to witness the ritual, which is a key observance in the temple’s calendar.
The ceremony began with a Panchamrit abhishek, wherein the deity was bathed in a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar. Following the ablution, priests applied a distinctive Vaishnav tilak on the idol’s forehead and placed bilva leaves inscribed with the name of Lord Ram around the shrine.
Further embellishment included a silver crown and a string of rudraksha beads (mund mala) draped over the deity. The ritual concluded with the resonant chant of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” echoing through the sanctum and reinforcing the spiritual fervor among the assembled worshippers.
The event drew a sizable crowd of local devotees and pilgrims, all participating in the collective prayer and seeking blessings from the revered form of Shiva known as Mahakal.
