The Nameri Wild Classroom programme in Assam takes school groups out of traditional classrooms to learn directly in the forest environment.

The Nameri Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam has launched a "Wild Classroom" initiative that brings students into the heart of the forest for experiential learning. Under the programme, school groups are escorted by sanctuary educators who guide them through trails, point out native flora and fauna, and explain the ecological importance of the area.

Participants engage in activities such as bird‑watching, river‑bank studies and simple conservation projects, allowing them to connect textbook concepts with real‑world observations. The sanctuary’s education team emphasizes that direct exposure to biodiversity fosters a deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship among young learners.

The Wild Classroom model is being promoted as a supplement to formal curricula, aiming to inspire future generations to protect Assam’s rich natural heritage while enhancing their scientific curiosity.
