Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a Rs 27,000‑crore semiconductor OSAT facility in Assam, touted as the world's biggest of its kind.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam announced plans for a semiconductor assembly, testing, packaging and marking (OSAT) facility that is projected to be the largest of its kind globally.
The project, valued at roughly Rs 27,000 crore (about $3.2 billion), will be developed under a public‑private partnership, with the state providing land and incentives while industry partners handle construction and operations.
Officials said the plant will generate thousands of direct jobs and strengthen India's chip‑making capabilities, aligning with the national push for electronics self‑reliance.
Construction is slated to begin later this year, with commissioning targeted for 2027, and the facility will serve both domestic and export markets.
The move follows recent central‑government initiatives to attract semiconductor investments, positioning Assam as a new technology hub in the country.
