The first international cargo shipment left Bogibeel in Assam bound for Bangladesh, marking a new trade route for the state.
Assam authorities flagged off the inaugural international cargo consignment from the Bogibeel terminal, destined for Bangladesh. The shipment represents the first direct cross‑border freight movement from the state.
Officials said the departure opens a fresh trade corridor that could boost exports and imports between Assam and Bangladesh, leveraging existing road and rail links via the Bogibeel bridge.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance connectivity in the Northeast and integrate regional supply chains with neighbouring countries.
Monitoring of the cargo’s transit will continue to assess the viability of regular services on this new route.
