Assam Police recovered 22 cattle suspected of being smuggled in Parbatjhora and detained two individuals believed to be involved in the illegal operation.
Assam Police announced that 22 cattle, believed to have been smuggled into the state, were seized in the town of Parbatjhora. The operation was carried out by the local police unit in coordination with the state’s anti‑smuggling squad.
During the raid, officers found the animals in a makeshift holding area and immediately took them into custody. Two men, who were suspected of orchestrating the smuggling ring, were taken into police custody on charges of illegal wildlife trafficking.
The seized cattle are slated for inspection by the veterinary department to confirm their origin and health status. Police officials said the operation was part of a broader campaign to curb animal smuggling across Assam’s borders.
The arrested individuals are expected to appear before the district court, where they will face charges under the Wildlife Protection Act and the Prevention of Illicit Trade Act.
