The Assam Excise Department announced that a coordinated operation has dismantled a liquor smuggling ring operating between Assam and Meghalaya. Seized cargo included a large quantity of illicit spirits and the smugglers’ transport vehicles. Officers from the Dimoria sub‑division were credited with gathering intelligence that led to the raid. In a ceremony at the Dimoria police station, the state excise commissioner presented certificates of appreciation to the team for their vigilance.
The bust comes amid a broader campaign by the state to curb illegal alcohol trade, which has been a persistent problem in the region. Officials said the operation was the result of months of surveillance and cooperation with Meghalaya authorities.
