Assam's education department has inaugurated the Nameri Wild Classroom, an initiative that integrates classroom learning with guided tours of the Nameri Tiger Reserve.

Assam's state education authority officially launched the Nameri Wild Classroom, a program designed to move students beyond textbooks and onto the forest trails of the Nameri Tiger Reserve. The initiative aims to provide experiential learning by pairing standard curriculum topics with real‑world observations of wildlife and ecosystem dynamics.

Under the scheme, school groups will be taken on organized visits to the reserve, where teachers and wildlife experts will facilitate activities that link science, geography and environmental studies to the sights and sounds of the forest. The program is part of a broader effort by the state to strengthen nature‑based education and foster a deeper appreciation for biodiversity among young learners.

Officials said the Wild Classroom will initially operate in selected schools across the region, with plans to expand based on feedback and logistical readiness. By immersing students in the habitat of the Bengal tiger and other native species, the project hopes to inspire future conservationists while reinforcing academic concepts through direct experience.
