Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to outline the state’s ongoing youth de‑addiction initiatives in Assam.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the de‑addiction programmes targeting young people in Assam. The discussion took place at the Governor's residence, where the governor presented an overview of the state’s current efforts to curb substance abuse among youth.

Acharya highlighted a series of outreach activities, counseling services and rehabilitation centres that have been set up across districts to address the rising concern of drug and alcohol dependence. He stressed the importance of coordinated action involving schools, community groups and health agencies to ensure early intervention.

Amit Shah acknowledged the challenges and expressed the central government's willingness to support Assam’s initiatives. He indicated that the Ministry of Home Affairs would consider additional resources and policy assistance to strengthen the de‑addiction drive, aiming for a collaborative approach between state and centre.
