Assam floods: CM Sarma meets Shivraj Chouhan as Centre approves aid for 386,000 houses

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as the central government cleared 386,000 flood‑damaged houses for reconstruction and announced a Rs 140 crore assistance package.
The chief ministers of Assam and Madhya Pradesh held a meeting to review the ongoing flood relief efforts in the northeastern state. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Shivraj Singh Chouhan discussed the scale of damage and the coordination required between state and central agencies.
The central government has now cleared 386,000 houses that were damaged by the floods, making them eligible for reconstruction under the national disaster response framework. In addition, a financial assistance package of Rs 140 crore has been approved to support affected families and accelerate rehabilitation.
Since June, heavy monsoon rains have inundated large parts of Assam, displacing thousands and causing extensive damage to infrastructure, agriculture and housing. Relief operations continue, with authorities focusing on restoring basic services and providing temporary shelter.
State officials said the newly approved aid will be channelled through existing schemes, and the meeting underscored the importance of inter‑state cooperation in managing large‑scale natural disasters.
