Assam Excise Department Initiates Training Programme to Combat Illegal Liquor Trade

The department announced a new training initiative targeting officers at district and sub‑district levels, focusing on detection, seizure and legal procedures related to illicit alcohol. The programme, developed in partnership with state police and the National Institute of Excise Training, includes modules on intelligence gathering, forensic analysis of seized liquor and awareness of health hazards. Officials said the effort seeks to stem the flow of counterfeit and illegal spirits that have been linked to health incidents and loss of revenue for the state treasury. Training sessions will be rolled out over the next two months across all 33 districts of Assam, with periodic assessments planned to gauge impact.
