Assam Congress launches statewide protests over alleged police action on opposition MPs

The Congress party in Assam has mobilised demonstrators in several districts, staging rallies and roadblocks to voice dissent over what it describes as a police crackdown on opposition members of parliament.

Party officials claim that law‑enforcement agencies have taken punitive actions against the MPs, prompting the party to call for a statewide protest to defend democratic rights.

While the Congress has demanded an inquiry into the alleged incidents, state police officials have not issued a detailed response, and the matter remains under observation by local authorities.
