Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that Assam is not a breeding ground for illegal entrants, after authorities deported 23 individuals deemed to have entered the state unlawfully.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed recent speculation that Assam serves as a hub for illegal immigration, stating unequivocally that the state is not a "breeding ground" for such entrants. His comments came after the state’s immigration officials completed the repatriation of twenty‑three persons identified as having entered Assam without legal permission.

The deportation, carried out by the Directorate of Immigration in coordination with local police, involved verifying the individuals' documentation and arranging their return to their places of origin. Officials confirmed that the process adhered to existing legal protocols and that the deportees were escorted to the border without incident.

Sarma emphasized that the government remains vigilant against any attempts to exploit Assam’s porous borders, and reiterated ongoing efforts to strengthen surveillance and verification mechanisms. He urged the public to rely on factual data rather than rumors, noting that the recent action demonstrates the administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.

The chief minister also indicated that similar checks will continue across the state to ensure that illegal entries are promptly identified and dealt with, reinforcing Assam’s stance on national security and demographic stability.
